I almost did not post this project. As you can see in the photo above, it is a simple peasant top, but I had worked on this project for 2 weeks. You see, this was not supposed to be a peasant top project. It was supposed to be a different tunic pattern I wanted to try, and also I wanted to make a tunic for myself too, for mommy-and-me look. But sometimes things do not work out the way you want...

We have had some cool days even here in Texas. I have been waiting for the cool air to arrive so I can make something using this pink flannel shirting I got last winter. I bought the fabric to make a simple peasant dress, but never got around to it. I still wanted to make an A-line dress, but I wanted to try something different.

This year Momo is dressed as Ariel the little mermaid for Halloween!
Making this costume was not a "must." I just made Princess Tiana dress, so she could have worn that or any other princess dresses she already owns for Halloween. But who am I to deny a little girl's request to be Ariel...her favorite princess at this time. This princess stage will soon pass, so I have told myself both Momo and I are going to enjoy it as much as we can while it lasts. So, Ariel it is.

I have many projects planned to sew, and this dress was not one of them. But when we decided to go to fruit picking and a pumpkin patch, I felt Momo needed a new dress. Both the pumpkin peasant dress and the pumpkin pillowcase dress I made in the past still fit her, but what the fun taking pumpkin patch pictures wearing the same dress year after year? ;)

Week 3's theme for Project Run and Play is...MAD for Plaid.
I almost missed this week's challenge. Last week I was summoned for jury duty, and although I was dismissed after waiting for several hours, I had to spend the next 2 days making up my work. And I did not want sewing to keep me from having fun with my daughter on the weekend. So that left me with less time to sew.

Week 2 of Project Run and Play theme is Candy-inspired outfits! Candy Inspired...when I read the theme, several ideas popped into my head...a cotton candy inspired pastel colored bubble dress, jelly beans inspired dots and pompom dress, tootsie roll inspired brown romper... but the very first "candy" I thought about was a candy cane. Just a classic, red and white peppermint candy. Rather than going all crazy and making a Halloween-suitable dress, I decided to stick with my first thought and make something simple.

New season of Project Run and Play has started!!!
I was not sure if I will be able to sew along, but this is one of my favorite parties, I had to try! The first challenge is Oliver + S Popover Sundress remix. It is a dress pattern that has been on my to-sew list for a while, so this challenge was a must do. I liked the simple & sweet A-line shape of the dress, so I did not want to change that. I decided to use a lightweight gauze fabric that was in my stash and make one last summer dress for this year.

I know the Labor Day has passed, and summer is said to be over...but we live in Texas, where summer is nowhere near over! Even though we may see sweaters and boots at the stores, I really, really rather not have them yet...
So I made another summer dress for Momo. I used the same pattern and tutorial I used a couple of weeks ago: Shirred Twirly Dress -From An Igloo

My fabric de-stashing attempt continues... I am especially trying to use up the cotton fabrics, which I tend to buy more because they come in so many cute prints!
These are organic cotton I bought about 2 years ago, just when I started sewing for my daughter. I started dress-making with a pillowcase dress, and I had a pillowcase dress in my mind when I bought them, buying only 1/2 yard each. I could still make a pillowcase dress with them, but I am always wanting to try something new. I felt like making ruffles, so I picked a very simple design that I could add ruffles to it.

For the 4th summer dress for little Momo, I decided to try a shirred dress. I have seen shirred summer dresses and pre-shirred fabric, and I thought basically what I need to do was to shirr the fabric and make it into a tube. But I searched for shirred dress tutorial online to get a better idea, and found a beautiful one: Shirred Twirly Dress -From An Igloo

I had some leftover fabric after making a Ruffle Summer Dress. This is the fabric I used for the test-run dress. It did not work out well as the ruffle dress, because I made the dress too big and also the fabric design did not go well with the dress design. But I still like this flower print, and I know Momo loves pink. I had just enough to make a skirt, so added some leftover tulle and I made a really girl-y layered skirt!

The 2nd summer dress for Momo this season is...a Sunflower sundress!
The fabric is not cotton. It is a synthetic fabric, very light weight and wrinkle-resistant, but not see-through. I don't think this print can be called vintage, but it does have old-fashioned feel to it. So I wanted to use a pattern with the same old-fashioned feel.

After taking a few weeks of sewing break, I am really in a mood to sew something. So I opened up the box of stashed fabric, and let Momo pick the fabric she liked. She picked this purple and white Hawaiian print. This was kind of an unexpected pick, but I know why she chose this one...it is all about color purple for Momo right now. Purple is her favorite color, well, for now.
I bought the fabric online a while ago. It is a very thin shirting fabric. I only had 1 yard, but that was just enough to make a light and flow-y summer dress needed to survive the Texas summer.

So I have shared 2 princess dresses I made for Momo for her first Disney vacation (Belle Dress and Cinderella Dress) . They are the only dresses I made for this vacation, but they were not the only costumes Momo wore during the vacation.

Probably no one has noticed, but I went missing for about a month :) That was because we went to our spring vacation. I was busy getting ready prior to our trip, then gone for a week, and then I needed time to recover from a cold I got at the end of our trip. Now I finally have time to post the pics of Momo's dress I made for this vacation!

I was hoping I would get a lots of sewing done this spring, but it is just not happening. I have several patterns I want to try, but I do not have enough time to try them all. So I picked one pattern that I REALLY wanted to try. This dress pattern is Ana Maria Horner's Paper Fan Dress.

Every year around this time, we enjoy driving country roads looking for bluebonnet flowers. Then we find some areas with good flower patch, get off the car, and take pictures. That is just what Texans do...especially when you have little ones.
I love dressing up my daughter and taking her pictures. For this year's bluebonnet photos, I wanted to add even more Texas feel to them...by dressing up Momo in a cowgirl hat and the boots. Cowgirl hat, boots, and bluebonnet...how much more "Texas" can you get???

Here is the latest re-fashioned T-shirt dress for my daughter, Momo. This T-shirt was again from Target's clearance section ;) I got the T-shirt last year, I think I paid about $3 for it. The crochet neckline and the color of the T-shirt caught my eyes, but I did not think the T-shirt would look good on me. However, it had a great potential to be a cute little girl's dress.

The problem with this was...the color green. I did not have any problems if the color she was supposed to wear was pink or purple, Momo has plenty of clothes with those colors. But green...Momo did not have anything suitable to wear to the school. And I remembered about the St. Patrick's Day celebration at her school the night before, so I needed something quick. Something quick, like refashioning an adult T-shirt into a child's dress.

It does still get chilly in the morning, but spring is here in Texas! I see flowers are blooming, and I have been spotting wild flowers early this year. As I continue to practice Tsumami (Kanzashi) flower making, I decided to make a pastel color flower hair accessory for spring.

What a February we had...we thought we just celebrated the Holidays, and then it was Mardi Gras, Valentine'd Day, Lunar New Year celebrations, and birthday celebrations... Our February was filled with events, and I was always doing something, whether planning, making something, or attending the events.
But I spend little time everyday last week after Momo went to sleep, to make those flower hair accessories.

The party season continues for us...with Mardi Gras fun!!
I actually did not think of going to Mardi Gras until two weeks ago. I have been to Mardi Gras loooooong time ago back when I was in college, and I did not enjoy it. Drunken people in crowded space, cold air at night, awful smell...the Mardi Gras scene was just not for me. So I never thought Mardi Gras was something we would take our little girl to. But then I heard about "Family Gras Day", Sunday family-friendly fun day. I thought Momo might enjoy the parade, so we decided to go check it out.

Valentine Inspired Looks is the theme for Project Run and Play week 4. I initially had something else in my mind for the Valentine dress, but decided to finish what I had planned to do for the 1st week challenge that I did not complete. The 1st week challenge was Party Dress remix. When I saw this animal prints/hearts fabric at Jo-Ann, I just thought it was perfect for a sweet bubble dress and the Party Dress remix challenge. And although the fabric is a part of their Valentine fabric collection, I thought this print can be worn before and beyond Valentine.

This winter I bought a pair of fleece pajama pants for myself, and learned how comfortable and warm fleece pants were. I wanted to share my new favorites with my daughter, so I went to fleece fabric shopping.
At Jo-Ann, I found this adorable birds fleece on sale. But when I got home, the fabric was so cute, I had to make it into a dress instead of pants.

I have been wanting to join Project Run and Play sew along this season. I knew I could not join all challenges, but I thought I could try maybe 2 or 3 challenges. I tried to join the first Party Dress Remix challenge, but then I did not have time to complete the dress... I was so disappointed, I decided to try this week's challenge, Polka Dots and Stripes.

This is another project I have had in my mind since last winter...I bought the fabric, washed it, and left it untouched for a year. I had to make this jumper dress, before Momo grows too big for the amount of the fabric I got, or too old to wear the cute owl print ;)
